Duty of Care
The Environmental Protection Act 1990 places a "Duty of Care" on all waste producers.
The process of how waste is handled, treated, transported and disposed of is detailed; “Duty of Care”.
You must take acceptable steps to keep waste safe. If you give waste to someone else to dispose of, you must be sure they are authorised to take it and can transport, recycle or dispose of it safely.
You can be fined an unlimited amount if you break the law
Washroom Legislation
Dryers – hand and face
Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare) Regulations 1992. Hygienex Ltd supplies facilities in the form of dryers for the hand and face, which help our customers to comply to the Regulations 21 of the above.
Soap dispensers & paper products
Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare) Regulations 1992 (Regulation 21) Hygienex Ltd can supply soap dispensers and paper products for your washroom. By supplying such items, you can be assured that you are acting in accordance with the above regulation.
Air freshening/scent units
The Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare) Regulations 1992 (Regulation 21) states that “suitable measures should be taken to prevent odours from lingering and from entering other rooms”
The air freshener units that are provided by Hygienex Ltd operate 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. In providing such items, you can again be assured that you are looking to address the issues within the above regulation.
Water management system (Ureco)
The Urinals - By - Law 83 states that, every pipe that supplies water to a flushing system or trough used for flushing a urinal shall be fitted with:
A flow shut-off device controlled by a time switch and a lockable shut off valve (ES50); or another equally effective automatic device or method for regulating the periods during which the cistern or trough may fill.
Water Supply (water fittings) Regulations 1999 schedule 2 section 9 para:25 (4a2) limits to 7.5 litres per urinal per hour.
Hygienex Ltd provides a water management system that will allow your establishment to comply with the above law, contribute towards environmental policies and reduce your water bill.
Feminine Legislation
The Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare Regulations) 1992 recommends that all ladies W.C.s should have provision for collection of sanitary waste material
This Regulation is further enhanced by the Water Industries Act 1991 which states that items which can be harmful to the drain or sewer cannot be flushed away.
Babycare Legislation
Human Hygiene and Medical Waste
Environmental Protection Act 1990 Duty of Care also applies to Medical and human hygiene waste.
If your establishment produces waste, you have a duty to achieve the following four points.
- To prevent any other persons committing the offences of depositing, disposing of or recovering controlled waste without a waste management license.
- Waste that is transferred only goes to authorised persons
- When waste is transferred, correct documentation accompanies the waste.
- To prevent escape of waste (contain it)
Hygienex Ltd is a registered waste carrier and we comply fully to Section 34 of the Duty of Care. All waste that is transferred from your premises is taken directly for incineration.
